Learning to Trim with Ida Hammer

There is truly nothing better than a day full of learning, laughter, and being surrounded by people who care so deeply about the wellbeing of their horses.

Ida Hammer first convinced me I could learn to trim my own horses feet back in 2019 and yesterday I was finally able to attend her Intermediate Trim class.

If any of you have thought for even a moment about learning to trim - I cannot recommend Ida highly enough. She will teach you everything you need to know, in a way that you can understand, and perhaps most importantly - in a supportive and compassionate way.

Her approach to horses and hoof care is horse first, always. And you feel that throughout the entire clinic.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Jen Pond - who hosted us at her brand new, absolutely gorgeous, track system boarding facility in Bowling Green, KY.

This is something our world so desperately needs more of, so if you are in this area and your horse struggles with metabolic issues or recurrent laminitis - she is your girl!

I was so impressed not only by her facility, but by how calm and settled her herd is. It is such a testament to the healing environment Jen has created. You can learn more about her facility HERE

I got to hang out with some old friends and meet some incredible new ones while learning new stuff to help more horses - just such a perfect way to spend my Sunday

Me and Kelsey working on our hooves - full concentration mode!

My hoof before - tried to pick the one that scared me the most! Ida told me there was a decent foot hiding under this and I did not believe her… BUT

Here it is!! Can you believe how much this frog came back to life - on a cadaver foot - with an appropriate trim? This absolutely blew my mind.
